Sony Vaio 8400M GPU went bad for the 3rd time....

Ok.

My Sony Vaio laptop (Model FZ-280e) has had three GPU failures in the past few months.

I contacted Sony and they said that my laptop was out of warranty (I got this back in 2007).

Sony refuses to admit that there is a problem with the 8400GT GPU.

I got this at Frys and had it repaired TWICE.

I can't take it anymore. I don't know what to do.

I really hate Nvidia and Sony for not doing anything about it.

So...

What are my options now?

If the laptop is out of warranty then legally Sony have no contractual obligation to fix it.

If this happens to be a common issue, perhaps you can contact a consumer rights group or a industry regulatory group and get them to tell you your legal rights on the subject. Maybe they can get Sony to admit it is a common fault (if it genuinely is) and issue a free recall for all affected devices.

That's probably all you can do.

Nvidia has recognized that there is a problem with the older 8400 chips awhile ago. The only thing you can do, is if your laptop uses MXM hardware for the gpu, you can try buying a newer revision of the gpu, or even another gpu completely. There are other low powered gpus other than the 8400 out now that are faster. You would just have to know if your mxm slot is revisions 1, or revision 3. I don't know how to go about doing that.

It's an inherent defect. I should be able to get a full refund by law, right?

This just isn't fair.

No matter how many times they repair it, the inherently defective GPU is still there.

Try going through Nvidias support and see what they say since it's their issue, and not Sonys.
