Is there any way I can answer a call on my phone without using the swipe. It is sometimes not very responsive.
 
Yes, there is. Try going to Phone - Settings - Call answering/ending options. Some phones allow you to answer with volume or home buttons. You can also answer with your voice on some. HTH!
