Spam in notification area?

I wasn't sure where to post this question, so if it belongs in another thread please feel free to move it. I have HTC Inspire and seem to be getting a couple of spam notifications at the top of the screen. One of them is a white star with an orange dot in the center that prompts me to save my contacts and points to pe.cardsms.com website. The other is a green plus sign, and I can't recall what that notification says. Is there any way to eliminate those or find out where they are coming from?

It is known as notification push advertising of companies like
AirPush
LeadBolt
Appenda
IAC
Moolah Media
TapIt
Urban Airship
Xtify

Run 'Addons Detector' and 'AirPush Detector' to find out when one of these AirPush addons is in one of your free apps.
With 'Addons Detector' use the filter 'Push Notifications'.
