Spam increase since joining?

GoneGoogling.com reported a story today about an increased amount of spam in gmail spam boxes since joining G+.

What do you guys think? Has anyone noticed an increased spam count since joining?

I for one have noticed increased spam since I joined G+. Before I joined, I have very little spam for the year and a half that I have had my gmail account. Since joining G+, I have probably doubled my spam count.

Thoughts?

None. However, I get an email or two every few months. No biggie for me.
 
I know I have had maybe 8 in the last year. I emptied the Spam box last thursday, when I looked yesterday. I had 28 new spam messages. Apparently I have won gift cards to like 3 or 4 different places.
 
No extra stuff. Mine went through the roof a couple of months back - my email address must have got on the wrong list.

None of its bad (Viagra, Nob enhancers etc) but strangely its all for the US - credit cards, Starbucks vouchers etc. I'm in the UK!
 
No additional spam here since joining, well gotta go get my plane ticket...apparently I won the russian lottery and I have never been there so I got alot to do, woohoo! :rolleyes::D

Perhaps you, and some other people, posted their Gmail address on a public forum to request an invite? I see a lot of people doing that in threads here, and that's a great way to attract spam.

I don't get much spam that actually makes it to my inbox in Gmail anyway, and I've seen no differences since joining G+.
 
I noticed no increase in spam than before I got +. I agree many people acting like crack addicts posting their email for the whole world to see. Just to get that fix lol.
 
There are bots that search for email addresses posted on various websites and forums. FYI, that's why some people write it like "DaSchmarotzer(at)Phandroid(dot)tk".
 
I haven't seen anything more. I was a one with a beta Goog account and get some of the "get bigger with this pill" and "Nigerian lottery" stuff, but no more than before.
 
No spam, but apparently a long lost relative of mine passed away in Nigeria and left me a large sum of money. All I have to do is pay the lawyers fee. I'm rich suckers, see you in Tahiti!

But MY long lost relative died in Nigeria? We must be related!

I just don't get spam. I'm very restrictive about my email address. With previous hotmail and yahoo addresses years ago I would be constantly flooded with the stuff but since I've had G+ and chiefly Gmail I just dont get it.
