This began a few months back, and I'm trying to find what the cause is. When placing OR receiving a call, the speaker now comes on as if it is the default setting, instead of normally coming from the handset's built-in earpiece. If you tap the speaker once, it is highlighted and remains on the speaker. Tapping a second time puts it on the handset earpiece.
Essential says to boot into Safe Mode and see if it clears the problem. Possibility of a corrupt app causing an issue. Only thing is I have about 120 apps installed, and have no idea how to trace which one might be the culprit, except to laboriously uninstall them one at a time until the problem goes away. Not a good way to go about this!
If the problem is still present in Safe Mode, this might be an indication of a low-level problem within the Android OS or a possible hardware issue. Then the last resort is a factory reset after backing up all my stuff.
