Hi all...
I think this is probably my first time posting on ANY forum ever. So bear with me; I'll try and make it as painless as possible for both of us...but this is a pretty specific problem so I'll add as much info as possible.
Also, sorry if this has been addressed elsewhere - I've been searching for hours for an answer to this with no success.
A coupla weeks back, my Galaxy S3 screen started flickering. "Oops," thought I, "probably time to do some backing up in case it dies." And then guess what happened.
Yesterday the phone went dead and when I switched it back on the screen was all screwed up. It started off as a mess of pixels (mostly blue). My first reaction was to switch it off and back on. Same thing, only this time the screen was mostly black with red, green and blue dots all over it (the individual pixels, I'm guessing). So I popped the battery and left it for a few minutes. This time, the screen was white with the R/G/B pixels visible on it and, with the exception of once when I switched it back on and the screen was flat white, it's been like that ever since. Grey lines flicker all across it from time to time. None of the notification lights fire up and it no longer vibrates.
I haven't dropped it or got it wet - in fact it's never had any kind of trauma other than being stuck in my pocket. It's long out of contract & warranty so a visit to Samsung won't help. I'd already backed up my contacts & photos and most crucial stuff is backed up online (I was sensible enough to begin doing this a week ago). However, I have files in one app that I hadn't yet backed up (NoteEverything) and I need to access them. I'd literally just finished backing up my pics and was moving on to my notes when it gave up the ghost. Bloody typical, right?
I'm not concerned about rescuing the phone as I'm long overdue a new handset. I just need my notes! I've tried connecting it to my laptop (with the original charging cable) and it recognizes a device, but comes up with 'the last USB device you connected to this computer malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it' message. So I know the phone is kind of alive, but the laptop can't see it as a mass storage device. Trying to boot in safe mode seems to have no effect (I can't even see it if it does as the screen is a mess!)
Kies doesn't recognize the phone and I've tried troubleshooting the connection/drivers. The handset is stock, not rooted - I've never done any custom activity on it. I don't have a microSD card in it, so my files are on the internal memory only.
Effectively, I just think I need to circumnavigate the system somehow and just access the files in the NoteEverything app. But I can't figure out how to. I've tried youtube videos and forums and nothing seems to get me any closer.
If you can, please help.

Sorry, that's all I had. Hopefully someone else will chime in.
