Hey everyone i have a lg spectrum and i want to jump on my moms family plan she has boost mobile... i see some sites where its possible to unlock the spectrum for a price, which im not worried about... just wondering if anyone out there or know anyone that unlocked their phones to jump to boost mobile... i see that boost mobile has android phones but its like you're almost playing full price for the phone but since i have a phone i already like.. i feel it would be much more cheaper to just unlock the phone from a site that knows how to do it.. verizon got too much for my budget and my phone had got cut off.. so this is the best choice that i can think of and keeping my phone.. so any suggestions or thoughts would help ty..

I have no idea man, I know that the spec hasn't been unlocked so you can use it with other services by any Devs on here yet, at least not to my knowledge, and i dont know about a site that you'd pay, sounds kinda sketchy lol.. Best of luck though, hope you can figure it out!

If you use a donor phone, you can program if to work. I've done it with VM. But the best you'll see for data is likely 1x. I don't know why but 4g phones don't get 3g the same so they aren't compatible. Or something. I'm mostly a Linux guy not a phone guy.

My recommendation is to find a compatible phone from Sprint or switch to another carrier. I highly recommend GSM, for several reasons... There is much better compatibility between carriers and phones, better Rom support, etc.

I'd be willing to bet vz made lg lock the sim and rils to avoid non-vz Sims getting better than 1x.

Just FYI - Unlocking Cell Phones Is Now Illegal | Charlotte News | Top Stories

Its now illegal to unlock a cell phone without the carriers permission.

Carrier locks are generally for GSM phones, not CDMA phones. And it's only illegal if the phone is subsidized (eg. it's not fully paid off).

But that doesn't make the law any more necessary or even sane. Contract law gives the carrier all they need to sue you to get their money back, and that's all they need. It's no business of theirs or the government if the phone is activated on another carrier, so long as the bill is getting paid on the original contract.

BTW, this is being written on an ATT Nitro, which was bought used. It is fully paid off but still locked to ATT because they refuse to give out the unlock code without proof of paid contract (which I don't have, obviously). They know good and well that the contract is paid, they just don't care to be bothered. If the government were fair, they would also force the carriers to give the unlock code out in this case. But no, users don't have any lobbying power...

Lol yea, I remember that in my copyright law classes. It's an antiquated application of the law, but one that still be done. I don't know if that's why vz locks them, but I guess they could use the USCA as a cause.

Btw, those petitions won't do shit... Only Congress can change the copyright act and they haven't done that in a large manner since the late 90s with the dmca. Congress always sides with rights holders, not the publics desire for free access and info.

When you do go to unlock your spectrum make sure to post your results on here for others who might be interested. If it works I might look into it actually.

I have a VS920 Spectrum and VS950 Intuition fully flashed (text, voice and 3g data) to a CDMA carrier outside the US, I believe in the US you just can't take a Sprint MEID (cellphone) to Verizon for activation, as all cdma carriers will only activate their own meids, well that's not I problem where I live since the cdma carrier will take any meid. But anyway, the process it's the same, like one guy said you need a donor phone, with that it's just really simple with tools like cdma workshop and cdma tool. I don't think I'm allowed to post such process but all I can tell you is that is possible and easy to accomplish.

can you email me.. and tell me how you got it done? i have a lg spectrum but i moved outside the us. and i havent been able to unlock the sim ... can you please help me.. if you cant post it.. then please email me the instructions...
