Spectrum on VZW, Compatible with Sprint?

When my upgrade date comes up (end of Nov), I may give my phone to my son, who has a very inexpensive plan with Virgin Mobile on the Sprint Network. For 2G and 3G, I think the phone he currently has (Moto Triumph) uses the same frequencies as the VS920. Of course, the VS920 also has LTE.

Question: if I got a new phone for myself, do you think I could register the LG Spectrum on Sprint's network for my son's use?

Would it have to be "Unlocked" or something else?
Thanks very much.

CDMA phones can't be unlocked because they can't be locked. But Sprint doesn't register phones that aren't Sprint phones. Your son can get an account on an mvno that uses Verizon's towers, like Page Plus, and use that phone on that account.

Rukbat, thanks for your response. Thanks for the reference to a particular mvno. Appreciate it.

There are several choices that the Spectrum from Verizon can be easily activated such as Pageplus , Straight Talk , Next G mobile , Ultra Mobile , Cricket etc. I can tell you that if you use Cyanogen Jellybean rom 10.1.3 you can program the phone by dialing *228 or *22890 directly . The key is to dial *228 and when the Verizon voice prompts for you to press #1 choice to activate , just don't turn it off and it will automatically proceed to activate ( program the phone with a new PRL,MIN,and MDN numbers ) its a good idea also to stay by a window for better reception. I believe this Jellybean rom by Cyanogen eliminates the need to flash directly the MDN,MIN and PRL into the phone . Of course if you use the Official Icecream 4.0.4 you would have to flash it using a CDMA WS or DFS softwares since this Rom will not allow you to use *228 . This Jellybean from cyanogenmod also allows the change of numbers or the porting of numbers since it can program "flash "the phone directly .
