Help Spectrum showing up as a CD

hzdedjm

Lurker
I'm not sure what my son did, but when I plug his Spectrum in to our computer, running Windows XP two things happen.

1. A browser opens automatically to the Verizon Backup Assistant page
2. It will only show up as a CD drive with the name of "Verizon Mobile" with the LG logo. (5.30 MB)

Now, when I plug in my own Spectrum it shows up as a normal USB device and I'm able to access it normally. The Backup Assistant opens as well, but that's just a minor inconvenience.

Anyone have an idea how to undue this so that I can gain access to it like a normal USB connected device?

Thanks much.

At the top you drop down notification tap USB, change type to storage or toggle between types of connection. If the Verizon or LG drivers are not installed on this PC it may help installing them.

If you choose to mount as "Charge only" or you haven't yet installed drivers the phone will automatically mount as a CD that contains the drivers for the phone and will autorun the driver installer on Windows (pretty neat really - avoids having to ship a separate CD with the phone!).

You can set the default USB connection mode from the Settings menu:
Connectivity->Default Connection Mode:
- Charge only
- Mass storage
- Ethernet (very few people may use this option)

Your son probably has the default set to Charge only, and yours is set to Mass storage. Checking the "Always Ask" button will prompt you to change the mode from your default setting each time you plug the USB cable into a computer.
