ICS, GB, CM10? We'll need more info if you want any real answers. I can tell you that I can send full sentences in CM10.1 without issues.

3 things seem to affect speech to text for me - proper version of gapps for my android version (if you are flashing custom roms), decent internet connection, and low background noise.

I use SVOX engine and US Gracie voice. Superior TTS inside Google Nav, but also pronunciation in apps like Tecarta Bible.
