Speed Limit App?

Looking for an app that automatically detects the speed limit and alerts me when I go x MPH over. (x is configurable preferably)

Will do it without having to be navigating a route.

There are several apps on the Play Store that will warn you if you are exceeding the posted speed limit. The problem is that none of them will automatically reload the current speed limit. A couple have interfaces that allow the user to easily switch between posted speed limits. Search for Speed Limit Warning on the Play Store and see if any of the ones offered are usable.

Trapster claims to be able to monitor the current speed limit and alert you if you exceed it (by a certain threshold), but I haven't used their app in a while so can't say for sure.

May be worth a shot though!

I use Speed Limiter for that:

• Five different speed limits.
• Available speed formats: kph (kilometers per hour) or mph (mails per hour).
• Speed limit has speed, upper limit, lower limit, limit type (lower, upper, both), activity state.
• Automatic limit changer (can be enabled or disabled) to ease the use.
• On alert you can choose to: Turn background red, vibrate, play sound.
• Keep screen on.
• Handle orientation and acceptable GPS accuracy.
• Adjust the acceptable GPS speed value.

I think Garmin and/or the other real GPS companies own that data. That's the one thing I miss about using the GPS on my phone. Google Maps recently added lane information for upcoming turns so maybe speed limit info is coming too.

Sorry to re-ignite this old topic, has someone found a reliable speed limit overlay application that can work well with Google Maps ?
