Hey all you Phandroidians out there!
While I spend the majority of my time hard at work (I hear the laughter of some fellow co-workers in the background), there comes a time when all hard workers (such as yours truly) just finds the need to screw-off, waste time, and blow off steam. How can I possibly do that and still meet my daily schedules you ask?
ANDROID GAME TIME...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ujn13COOvs
Enter Speedx 3D!
Several of the games I've found for my Droid often come with massive pages of instructions that are hard to back out of should you want to quickly stop screwing off and become productive again. SpeedX 3D is not one of those apps, it a quick in and out experience even the most hyperactive 3-year-old could manage.
Speedx 3D is just that app you need to toggle between your mindless need to do nothing and the quick response time it takes to get back to working hard, working for the man, and working yourself to death. Yes folks, there is a light midway down that tunnel and for me, it appears in the form of SpeedX 3D.
Speedx 3D
Developer: HyperBees Ltd.
Price: UK£0.50 (or about .72 cents US)
(I still wish the market would auto-change currency for us! Duh!)
Lets get rolling on the good stuff shall we?
Features:
1) 3D Graphics (DROID!)
2) Accelerometer Controlled (motion baby!)
3) Almost as Addictive as Ben and Jerry's Cookie Dough Ice Cream
4) Fast Paced (hold on to your seats boy's and girls)
5) Easy to Learn (can you count to 3?)
6) Decent Music (does not loop 'too' repetitively)
7) Facebook and Twitter Friendly (Upload scores and challenge friends)
8) Beats Day Old Pizza (close call here...)
9) Save and upload scores (yes - challenge the all-time Speedx Yoda)
10) Daily, weekly, and all-time high scores (to discover your really NOT that good.
Gameplay:
This has to be one the easiest apps to start and stop. I hate it when apps make you back out of 1200 screens, perform rituals, and eat raw garlic before setting you free (Developers! You know who you are!). Speedx is just start and go - GetRdone!
The point of the game is to stay alive as the screen races down tunnels, over planes, and over pipes. Objects randomly find their way directly into your path. Avoid them and live, smack them headfirst you might die!
- Press 'Play' to begin.
- Wait for the red, yellow, and green light to disappear (aka Nascar)
- Rotate your phone or mobile device to the right and left to steer.
- Pipe winds back and forth while you avoid object in path.
- Each object give a collor trail before it hits allowing you to avoid.
- Orange Square trails (see video) can be collected to give you "power shields"
- Power shields protect you as you bust through obstacles.
- Path will continually change as long as you stay alive.
- Your game ends when you hit an object without any 'power-shield" remaining.
- Rinse-Repeat (yes - the addiction is fierce).
Pro's:
Probably many more than I can list, but for starters:
a. Easy and quick to pick up gameplay
b. Fluid (mesmerizing) 3D graphic display
c. Ever-changing scenery
d. Ability to upload scores to server
e. Scores for Daily, Weekly, and All-Time high stats (server-based)
f. Socially connected - posts score to Facebook and Twitter
g. Options menu adjust just about every feature.
Con's:
I really couldn't find any, but maybe this one...
a. Inability to change music?
Recommended Changes/Updates:
- Ability to Change Music
- Ability to pull pictures from gallery and post them on obstacles
- Jumping Over Obstacles
- Weapons to shoot obstacles (earn weapon charges).
- Replay/Record mode - to re-watch your wicked experience!
Summary:
What can I say, when you got it right - you got it right. This game is a well-balanced effort at pleasing the end-user. When you're at Aunt Edna's and she's rambling on about her sweet potato pie, whip this puppy out and teleport to a happier place.
It can be muted so that Aunt Edna will never know (she can hardly see at 90 you know), just throw some 'uh-huhs' into the conversation while you race down the tube racking up points.
Speedx 3D is a great game that doesn't seem to go stale after you open the package.
I've played it for a good while and it hasn't lost its ability to keep me trying to beat my high-score. Even those NON-Techies (*GASP*) will dig it when you hand them the phone to play, and they easily pick it right up.
Built Well, Built Tough, Built To Last!
No technical or functional issues noted here...
Games come and go, but folks! Speedx 3D is here to stay!
