Root [Sprint/Cricket] Finally Joined the Root Community

So that's a lie. I did root my USCC Electrify, but never went past that...

However, I love AOSP SO much and hate TouchWiz (on the S3) SO bad that I decided to throw caution to the wind and root muh SGS3 (L710-Sprint) and installed my very first ROM (with near-failure), Carbon!

I was satisfied, but curious about other ROMs...

I'm still back and forth between different ROMs (Carbon, Baked, CM10) and am about to try AOKP.

My next action is to discover the wonderful world of kernels! However, I'm at a loss of where to even begin. All of my searching on teh wonderful internetz has left me with various videos of how to install a kernel without so much as to tell me what different ones do. From what little I saw, I gathered that UI overlays such as TouchWiz, Sense, etc. are kernels.

My question: Anyone have any recommendations to which kernel(s) work best? Or, if there is a place I can go to read what the different custom kernels do, please let me know!

Ah so it has to be compatible with both phone AND ROM. That's good to know, thank you!

I really am a dummy, huh? This should be good... :D

No, you are no dummy :) Just not informed yet. We all started out that way.
I did also....this is how we learn:D

Kernels and their settings can be confusing sometimes...even I don't fully understand them.

But you are correct...kernels must be compatible with your device and the rom you are running.

Edit: you're from Palatine? you're about an hour north of me at work :p

Haha I actually work in Schaumburg. I used to live in Palatine, but I'm back in Downers Grove now.

Where abouts do you work?

Talk about a small world!

I'll definitely do some more research on these kernels and see if I can't find something I like.

Thanks, again!

Edit: Just so I'm sure, Baked BlackBean 8 ROM is considered an AOSP, correct? So BMS should work for me?
