Root [Sprint/Cricket] Phone slow

Could be that you have it set to sync once an hour, and if it came in right after you synced it'll be almost an hour before you get it. (But the more often you sync the more the battery drains.) If Cricket doesn't use push service, you have to choose between speed of getting the message and battery life.
 
[FONT=Verdana, serif]You may need to wipe the cache partition, do the following:[/FONT]
[FONT=Verdana, serif]1. Turn off the device.[/FONT]
[FONT=Verdana, serif]2. Press and hold the Volume Up key, Home key, and Power key at the same time.[/FONT]
[FONT=Verdana, serif]3. [/FONT][FONT=Verdana, serif]When the phone vibrates, let go of the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.[/FONT]
[FONT=Verdana, serif]4. Press the Volume Down key to move to and highlight wipe cache partition.[/FONT]
[FONT=Verdana, serif]5. Press the Power key to select and wipe the cache partition.[/FONT]
[FONT=Verdana, serif]6. After the wipe is finished, go back up till reboot system now is highlighted and press the Power key to restart the phone.[/FONT]
 
If you are rooted than a clean wipe of cache and davlic cache would help. Same process as GT stated.. but you need a custom recovery such as CWM or TWRP. After wiping cache scroll down to advanced then "wipe davlic cache".
