Root [Sprint/Cricket] Trying to Root..

hi everyone,

I have rooted before and the S3 should be easy to root..
looked over the vid and instructions, not hard at all..

i fell short before the first step... loading the Drivers on my Windows XP laptop!!!!

i have downloaded the drivers (v1.4.6.0)from the link above and even tried the new drivers from Samsung's web site (v1.5.14.0).

I have tried 3 different usb cables (including the new one that came with the new S3).

I have tried 3 different usb ports on my laptop.
i have even tried my friends Windows XP laptop.

each time i connect my S3 to the laptop via the usb cable..
it will connect to the laptop with as a camera to share photos.. gives me a selection of types of photo connects: Control Center, Dropbox, word, etc...

but when i try to connect to enable the Media Drive (MTP).. finding new device...
i get an error and the install wizard comes up..
"an error occurred during the installation of the device, the required section was not found in the INF."

so.. .what am i missing???
I think i might have a brand new bad/broken samsung S3.
what do you all think??

It doesn't sound like anything is wrong with your phone as it does connect. It might be a driver issue on your computer. Try uninstalling them all and only installing one set.

i have tried that too.. i uninstall .. and installed .. a few times...
even different download versions.

i have tired my friends laptop.. same issue.

to me.. it seems to point to a bad phone.. or some file is missing from "INF". anyone know what "INF" is?

maybe i need the KIES software? i have not loaded that on to my laptop yet... is that the missing link?


one thing that htc has over samsung.. .all my htc phones..
all i had to do was.. connect it to my laptop.. and it works.
so it was a good flashdrive option with any computer.
it would ask me how I want to connect it: charge only or flash drive

i found the solution...

going to samsung's website and searching through the support area..
the usb driver for samsung mobile devices ..requires you have the latest version of Windows Media Player!!! for whatever reason...go figure!
i upgraded the file and it asked me to go through 3 reboots.. and it finally worked!!!!

update: phone is rooted..

all good.. and very easy...
as easy as filling your gas tank of your car.
