Root [Sprint/Cricket] What is the point of flashing Radios?

If your reception is perfectly fine then you probably don't need to change your radio. Different radios will perform better in different locations so if you are struggling for reception some times changing can solve the problem.

Not only can radios improve or deteriorate the voice, signal and data quality... But they are also a factor when it comes to battery life.

And, as far as that goes, LF9 and LG8 seem to be the best. I've not noticed any improvement or deterioration since upgrading from LF9 to LG8. I skipped LG2.

yes there are a lot of benefits to flashing different radios.

but flashing radios are the biggest risk of a REALLY BRICKING your phone. most issues with modding can be fixed. but when you mess up a radio change, these mistakes can brick a phone. double check everything.. and make sure you are using the right radio for you carrier and phone model.

Thanks all. I won't flash the radio to be on the safe side. :)

From experience with past devices, you'll have to in order to get the official jelly bean update. Even the rooted version of the JB update will likely need to have the new firmware. Jelly Bean tweaks a lot with how the device operates and saves power.

Flashing firmware isn't as scary as people make it out to be. You have to be careful to follow instructions and get the right ones. But once you are sure, it's easy and the chance of going haywire is slim.

I've flashed firmware on 4/5 of my Android devices that I've owned so far. 100% success rate. Just take your time with it.
