Ive decided not to root this phone. Ive looked around on here and on XDa and it seems that everybody is having trouble rooting by reading their comments. It also seems like most of the links and stuff i need arent working so i guess i wont be rooting. Im just saying.

In the xda rooting section. there are alot of people commenting that they are having problems, and the links dont work.

You pretty much hook your phone up to Odin and flash a custom recovery. Easy as pie. Can you link us to the directions you are trying to follow? We can provide the files for the dead links

i think i found the working links. im just worried about OTA's and any other updates. i really dont want to look for and flash everytime there is an update. as you can tell im still new at this and still dont know what im reading, looking for, and how to do things. i did root my old phone and every ROM i flashed had issues after a month or two.

Here is the guide I've used a couple of times to root my phone. Took maybe 15 minutes and didn't have any problems with it.

As far as updates go you will sacrifice automatic updates, but looks like they will release the update so you can flash it with custom recovery.

On the other hand I'm believer in not rooting unless you have a reason too.

whats stock recovery and custom recovery? if i root i might just keep it stock and not flash a new ROM. But if i do want to flash a different one do i need to do anything else after i root?

Stock recovery is the recovery software that ships with the device. A custom recovery is required to root but the stock recovery is required to take an OTA update.

You can root, stay on the stock rom, and reflash the stock recovery to be avle to still take OTA updates

It just involves flashing a single file from recovery after you root.

After that you have the stock rom rooted and you can take ota updates still

ok sorry i have another question. On QbKing77's video on how to root he downloads CMW-recovery-LTE-sgs3-v4.tar, and i only found and download clockworkmod.tar, which was the same website and link he got his from. Is mine ok or do i need to find the exact one. Im thinking the exact one but not totally sure?
