Sprint ID required?

I'm activating two LG Optimus S today to replace mine and wife's phones. The quick start instructions in the box seem to indicate that the first thing you must do is download the Sprint ID pack. We'd both rather not have this overlay of stuff, just set up our phones the way we want them.

Is Sprint ID actually required, or are they just pushing it?

Is there some major function ONLY available in it? (which I doubt...).

For instance, isn't there a Google map/nav/GPS function native to all Androids, or downloadable from the app market?

Hmm...iirc I just chose the bottom option and it was clean or maybe I cleared it before it installed. Mine currently is a clean version with no ID pack installed.

Its not required...You could remove all the apps it installed. Its just being pushed.

You have to install before your able to use the phone, thats how my transform is anywayss, but after installed u can go back and just delete it.
U may wanna get the sprint pack if u want sprint tv and than delete everything but that app because this is the only way to obtain it.
