Root [Sprint] Stock Android ROM

I want to know if I can just take any stock android .zip file and flash it to my phone. I want to move off of LG's stock and just have plain Android. Especially as how I'm seeming to have issues with PAC and CM recently. Does stock android have to be certifies for my specific phone to be able to be flashed to it? Also how would updates work with it? Would it overwrite root access and lock my boot loader if I updated stock android?

You have to have a Rom specific for your device, if you try to flash another phone's Rom, you would wind up with a brick.
Once you get a custom Rom on your phone, if you accept and install an OTA update, you would lose root.
