Sprint Users and Nexus 5 in Playstore

Dr. Feelgood
I posted this in the pre-release thread, but since its closed now I thought I'd make a thread to make sure it was easily found.

I contacted google support by phone and they confirmed the nexus 5 from the play store will indeed work with sprint network.

No need to buy a special version of it from Sprint :)

EDIT:

I have also confirmed this with Sprint chat support. They can provide you with an LTE SIM upon activation

This has made my day! Two on the way.

Really? It just work without the SIM card? I guess you have to call Sprint?

I'm going to stop by my Sprint store on the way home and chat with them, but I assume it wont have any problems with activation.

They are the same device

Sprint uses SIM cards as well because of their LTE Network. So I'm assuming it's just a matter of getting one activated for your account and popping it into the device.

You can just take one out of your current device and pop it in there, but assuming and knowing it's a Sprint SIM of course. It's needed to activate it.

Yes, they will provide a SIM for LTE upon activation :)

Good to know, now if only the Sprint MVNOs would have the Nexus 5 :)

Added:

According to Ting (a Sprint MVNO) they "expect to have the Nexus 5 available in as little as a couple of weeks."

You will have have to buy it from Ting, not from Google, but it will be the same price. If you're new to Ting you can get $25 off the Nexus 5 with the link in my signature below.

What about Sprint sub-networks? Like, Ting/Cricket/Boost Mobile/etc.?

Welcome to the forums!! :D

That is essentially the same question that kate above asked with the MVNO's (Mobile Virtual Network Operator)

It *SHOULD* work since they are using a compatible network, but I would call and ask someone before ordering, and make sure to let us know what you find out! :)
