Spy Software - Help!

A friend of mine believes that his girlfriend has installed one of the spy programs on his phone. He isn't sure which one, but it definitely appears that she sees his texts, and knows where he is etc.

Any ideas on how to detect it for sure? AVG didn't find anything. The phone is not rooted.

Also, will a factory reset get rid of it? If the program is hiding so well, I also wonder if it will survive a factory reset in some way.

AVG won't find a properly installed app because it's not malware. Go to settings>applications>manage applications and select the ALL tab. Scroll down until you see an app you don't recognize or remember installing and then go to the market to see what it is.

Then tell your friend to start looking for a new girlfriend.

If she knows where he is he must have an iPhone.
 
So you did something wrong in your relationship and you believe that your girlfriend is spying on you? If you aren't rooted, go to Settings>Applications>Manage Applications>All and look through the list of your programs. If nothing suspicious is in there, you are golden. If you are still that paranoid, then a full wipe including the SD card will solve your problem.
Maybe you shouldn't be doing anything that requires you to hide from your girlfriend, especially if you are actually doing something that she has a reason to watch you for. If you haven't done anything, find a new girlfriend.
