I've got a laptop (hp envy 15-j092nr) which I've switched out the main HD for a Samsung SSD. Mind numbing the difference.
While I was under the hatch, I noticed there was a slot I wasn't familiar with. Turns out it is a mSATA slot. I've read that there are some people concerned about the read/write cycles causing degradation of the life of a SSD. I'll be using my laptop to process photos and video. What I'm wondering is if it might be worth it to install a mSATA SSD to use as my "scratch disk" to save wear and tear on the main SSD, something in the 128GB range? Would the system even be able to see or use it in that capacity? I don't think it would add any speed to the system. It would just be to place the wear on the cheaper and easier to replace part.
Then again, if my laptops have about a two year life before replacement, is it even worth worrying about the read/write wear and tear?
