Well the information about the beta linked from the linked thread says that you had to apply for it by the end of December 11th. This thread was started on December 12th, so it seems that the answer is that you missed the beta and you'll have to wait for the stable release.

We don't know when the stable Oreo will be released. I doubt Xiaomi know for sure either, since it will depend on what problems the beta program turns up. When it is released I expect you'll be able to download it over the air through the usual system update mechanism. In the meanwhile all you can do it wait.
 
If you have a different question please start a different thread. This is for your own good: there may be people who can answer this question, but not the one in the thread title, and those people will never see this second question if you add it to the same thread because they won't read this far.

I don't have this phone, don't even know whether it has a portrait mode, so all I can say is that the option should be in the controls of the camera app somewhere.
 
Have Xiaomi released that patch for this phone? Google released the March patch 2 weeks ago, but unless the manufacturer includes it in an update others don't get it.

Anyway this is off topic in this thread, because the security patch is not the Oreo update.
