stable way to disable screen lock at home?

joshatt34

Newbie
Hi all,
I'm newbie for this. Following tutorial, I've tried two ways to disable screenlock at home:
1, enable screenlock(which is PIN) when NOT near cell towers.... This method is very unstable, often fails, so I didn't give it much tests.
2, disable screenlock(which is SLIDER) while home wifi connected...... This method is a little better with stability, but still not good enough. I give it more tests, I find that I have to disable the tasker app then enable it, when it fails to disable screenlock.

I'm talking about stability here ---- sometimes works but often I see slider. When it fails, I noticed that home wifi is connected(I always set my phone to be "wifi always on when screen locked") and tasker app is "active".
System is android 4.0.4, rooted.

Any stabler way?

Are you using the Keyguard (on/off) action?

I've seen that sometimes, you need the screen to be on once for the Keyguard change to be correctly reflected.
We could try switching the display on and off with Secure Settings (separate app) to see if it improves stability...

Thanks for your help.
Yes, keyguard....So just now I installed "secure settings plugin", but I can not find anything about "display". I could see "keyguard" in it and I tried that, it turned out not stable as well as tasker's keyguard.
Could you please tell me where is that "display"?

The command is "Wake Device" with the option Screen & Keyboard Light On

Maybe for Keyguard to be more stable, we need something like this:

[Disable Screen Lock]
Secure Settings > Wake Device > Screen & Keyboard Light On
Keyguard Off
Wait 1s (or less?)
System Lock

[Enable Screen Lock]
Secure Settings > Wake Device > Screen & Keyboard Light On
Keyguard On
Wait 1s (or less?)
System Lock

I'm as unsure as you about this, it probably needs more testing or confirmation by someone else that we are not going the wrong way.

System Lock

I don't know the meaning of "system lock", so I did some test with and without it. Both cases I find some improvement but still some fails.

In help file, "system lock" = turn off display and engage keyguard...... what does "engage keyguard" mean? Sorry for my english.

System lock is the equivalent of pressing the Power button. That's the simplest way to put it to describe what it does, whether Keyguard is on or off.

Keyguard is the same thing as Screen Lock in your Security settings.

Thanks.
I'll do more test and report later.

With some test, I guess Secure Settings does not make much change, so I uninstalled that plugin.

Finally I know I can search this forum with keyword "keyguard". And I find Cerberus666 said:
In my experience, two things do not work reliably, at least not on Jelly Bean:

1. The context "Wifi connected" on its own (I have "never sleep" on, and yet at some point Tasker "forgets" that Wifi was on and the keyguard is re-enabled until I switch Wifi off and on again).

2. The command "turn keyguard off" (often stops working all together at some point until reboot: even a Tasker short-cut on my home screen will then be unable able to turn off the keyguard).

My work-arounds are these:

1. I have added another profile with the context "Screen Off" + "Wifi connected" that turns the keyguard off if conditions are met. This way, the Wifi state is checked every time the phone is normally locked, which works reliably for me.

2. I have my action "Lock Off" set to first turn the keyguard on, then off again. This is reliable, whereas only turning it off usually stops working at some point (only starts working again after reboot).

I tested and found that his solution 1 or 2 ALONE does not solve my problem, but with both two solutions it works. And my situation is "cell near" instead of "wifi connected".

Thanks for your help.
