Status Bar Questions

Hey All,
New to android after using the iphone pretty much since it came out. I just recently bought the S3 and I'm getting used to it now. However I was watching a few youtube videos and I keep noticing that people have a "Notifications" and "Drive Mode" icons on their status bar. I do not and can not figure out how to enable those two options.

Notifications come and go on my GS3. No current notifications, no icon. Mail, msg, vm or missed phone call occur, then notifications icons appear. Once I clear them, notification icons go away. If I understand your question right. :D

Don't know about drive mode; anyone else?

pull down the screen where your notifications are at. On the very top of the status bar we all have several icons. "WiFi", "Bluetooth", "GPS" and so on..... In there people have "Notifications" I do not. I was just curious. Again I am very new to Android. I could simply be missing a setting some where.

Got it now. When I pull the bar down there is no Notifications but there is Driving Mode with a steering wheel icon. It is a toggle on/off icon that obviously has something to do with operation while you are driving a car. Check the manual, I guess to get the details - I haven't used it since I have bluetooth in the car.

Can't find anything in the manual that tells me where these options are at. Phone is brand new as well so all the software is updated. Figured it might have had something to do with that. I'm continuing to search the web. LoL I figured youtube would have showed me but I can't find anything on there either.

Plus 2 more pages. Each item has a picture of the icon beside it, not shown here in this posting.

Apologies to others for the long posting.

Saw all of that as well. Did all of it too. Still no icons. If I was able to post a photo I'd show ya what I have an don't have.

I have the Sprint variant of the S3. There is no toggle for Driving Mode in my notification bar. However, I think other carriers have the option for Driving Mode in the notification bar.

Driving Mode is still an option somewhere within my settings though. I think under Language and Input.

BTW, if you want to take a screenshot you can do so in 2 manners:

1) Hold the power and home button simultaneously

2)Swipe the side of your hand on the screen from one side to the other side.

Yeah I know how to take a screenshot but since I'm new to the forum I can't post them yet. And if thats a carrier thing that would be wierd. I have a little "i" where my phone says AT&T. Its there because it seems notifications are off. However I still get notifications. This is wierd.

Yeah thats my issues except I don't have the big button with the "i" on it. LoL I'm missing that button. Have all the others but that one.

Strange...Since you're receiving notifications perhaps you should restart your phone and see what happens.

Still on 4.0.4. Assuming that isn't jellybean. Still very new to Android. As in only two days now. LoL. I'll state that I am on at&t.

That's still ice cream sandwich. All I know is that jelly bean removed the driving and notifications toggles and added a blocking mode one. But annoying as I was starting to use the driving mode one
