Help Status Bar Settings??

My SIII just upgraded to Kit Kat. The status bar is now transparent and my wallpaper is quite white, so the text is very hard to read on the status bar now. Seems like we had some options to change the fonts etc in the status bar before but I cannot find it anywhere now. Is this possible?
