status / notification bar modification?

So far i've been able to modify pretty much everything about this phone to how i want it, with the minor exception of the status or notification bar. I want to be able to (for instance) add % to the battery meter, or just remove the damn default battery meter and use an app that has % on it instead. Being able to move around where default items like date/time and network coverage are displayed on the status bar would be awesome too. I havent been able to find any apps that do anything remotely similar to this, unfortunately.

Anyone else looking for this feature? Is it impossible? Does it require rooting?

I like customizing every piece of the UI on my phone and this is the last thing i care about, so any help is appreciated.

The only way that I am aware of is through rooting your phone, and even then, you'd have to program replacement icons.

Read the thread on rooting in this forum before you decide to do it.

The only customization I have come across for the notification bar (since there is no root for the Acclaim yet) is an app called Launcher Pro that lets you hide it.

Launcher Pro also lets you change the amount of home screens on your phone and add icons to the bottom dock on your phone.

Hope that helps, even though it isn't exactly what you were looking for.

Yea, I've already got LauncherPro, but i dont want to hide the statusbar, i want to make it more useful. Apparently that means it has to be rooted (i kinda suspected that when i didnt find any apps for it in the market). Oh well, at least i know.

I'd almost bet that this is a function that could be added to Launcher Pro. I would recommend that you contact the developer and ask for it.

What about just seeing the percentage of battery left? I would dig this.

Battery Status Pro, available in the Market, does that and more. It gives you approx minutes of talk time, Internet time, and standby time. It will also tell you your battery's temperature. Sounds cool!

I've had Battery Indicator for a while now. It works good if all you want is to know how much battery is left by looking at the notification bar.

Battery Status Pro is great! I searched for and found another one, but I didn't like how it displayed an ad in the settings. I don't mind the free-and-ad-supported model so much, but if I can get free-without-ads I'll take it. Mostly because I'm afraid of accidentally hitting the ad and incurring unwanted charges.

Is there a better way of sharing apps? It's nice to say the name of it, then I go search for it, then I show it to my wife, and she searches for it and matches the icon... aren't these phones supposed to be able to scan those newish 2D barcodes to do stuff like this (open URLs)?
