Just thought i would mention TOR for those who just don't know. There is NO such thing as untraceable or true anonymity BUT you can at least minimize your exposure. Am new to Android and am really surprised at the lack of effort in securing our devices. Anyhow EVERYONE should be aware of TOR and for Android, ORBOT...

A few gathered here certainly know about TOR.

What I like about the hidden web is its vast and varied nature. By far, a much, much larger place than the surface web.

I think security will eventually be an "us against them" affair, with new laws being passed that make it difficult. TOR/Bittcoin just makes things tougher on those that want to know everything about us.

For the NSA: Today, I ordered a book on Amazon, I visited the Apple site, the Harley-Davidson site and Starklite's Indian web site. I sent my brother a few emails and returned a few messages. I Face Booked a few things and Twittered a few more things. I watched a few cat videos on YouTube, too.

Thought I would save you some time, UR Welkome.

What I'd like to see is an easy to follow how-to guide to TOR. Anyone know if there is one?

(I'm at work and can't go looking for one)

This is as simple as it gets. When I installed TOR, I do not recall doing very much at all. Very little config work.

Friendly note - we at AndroidForums.com have no issues with people wanting to protect their online privacy.

However - anonymous services are also used heavily by spambots and a number of sites, including ours, end up blocking some of those IP addresses so you can enjoy discussions instead of a flood of ads for imitation shoes and handbags.

If this is ever a problem for you, and you can't get in where you once could, please drop admin a line at androidforums.com@gmail.com to get that sorted out.

Cheers, thanks! :)

Just saw this.

Confirmation - if you needed any - that using encryption (and I'm guessing anonymising services), will get you added to the US spooks' dodgy dude database .. for a minimum of 5 years.

Not if you take the there's-nothing-to-worry-about-if-you-have-nothing-hide argument to it's next logical step: if you're hiding something, it must be something for the authoriites to worry about :D

Have to say, I would have been completely gobsmacked if encryption and anonymising did not raise a red flag. Of course, there are legitimate reasons for both, but obviously the first thing you're going to check is what people are obviously trying to hide ..

In fact, for that very reason, I'd bet most terrorists are trained to avoid encryption / anonymising in favour of hiding in plain sight things like the use of 'code' - "Your shipment of gummy bears is arriving tomorrow" for "Your shipment of semtex is arriving tomorrow".

If they use t'interweb at all - most al Qaeda commuications are - or were - via courier. Which also has risks - it is how they tracked down Bin Laden.

I have no idea what semtex is, but if it's something explosive I imagine that you and I are now on the watch list for mentioning it in this thread.

Fertiliser bomb, Depleted uranium, Bin Laden, Obama, President, Houses of Parliament, Plane hijacking, Sniper, Congress, Al Qaeda.

It's a Czech (I think) equivalent of C4 (plastique explosive) that was very popular with the Provisional IRA, back when they were blowing people up.

I'm sure this thread already had already raised suspicions with all the talk of encryption and the like :D

If there's a dollar to be made, there's away. :listen:

It gets better: all those anti-virus programs you have on computer to "make it safe" from backdoors and trojans? Guess what - they are the backdoors and trojans!
One of the most secretive of these contractors is Endgame Systems, a startup backed by VCs including Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, Bessemer Venture Partners, and Paladin Capital Group. Established in Atlanta in 2008, Endgame is transparently antitransparent.
