Stealth find-my-phone app? Root OK.

Is there a stealthy (preferably free) locate-my-phone app that can be hidden such that a phone thief wouldn't know it's there, and wouldn't know you were trying to locate the phone (from another device, like a PC)? (Android's built-in locator gives notification that the phone is being located, as does something like Where's My Droid.)

I used to have a stealthy app like that from Avast but it no longer exists. If rooted, you could hide it and password protect it so that it couldn't be easily found, and couldn't be removed without wiping the phone. You could only access it from the phone by inputting a PIN into the phone dial-pad. You could login to Avast's website and locate the phone, lock it, sound an alarm, etc.

You could always go to settings, apps and then turn off notifications for any find my phone apps, which would stop the notification when you're searching for it. You should also be able to hide any app from showing in your app draw. I could do it with my Sony and I can do it on Samsung. It might be different with your phone but try opening the app draw, three dots, settings, hide apps ;)

Blocking notifications for Find My Device is a good call.

Password protection won't stop someone seeing the notification unless you've configured your notification settings to stop it. I just tested and it's perfectly visible on my lockscreen without my unlocking the phone.
