Stephen Colbert in the SC primary

If you haven't heard, Stephen Colbert is going to run for "The President of the United States of South Carolina". He's basically going to run in the primary in South Carolina. At least, that was the plan. Turns out he can't put his name on the ballot because he was too late. He's putting his support behind Herman Cain (he dropped out of the race awhile ago). Polls show Stephen Colbert is leading with 36%.

Thoughts on this?

It made me laugh. And John Stewart is running his completely un-releated superpac.

I like that he just shows what a joke politics is, and that he's got such huge support. I could easily see myself voting for Stephen Colbert.

But that'd mean that no more Colbert report for a while... (just guessing on that)
OH! The Colbert Report: Whitehouse Edition. ;)

I would totally vote for him as well, just to see what would happen. He's already leading in South Carolina. Although that doesn't matter since there are no write ins.

As for the no Colbert Report, I guess that just means the Daily Show has to make 2 episodes ;)

He gave it a spin in 2008, so why not?

I'm tempted to say I'd vote for him.

I'd really rather vote for Al Franken and look at how he started.

I'm torn. On one hand I love Colbert and Stewart and my wife and I even made the pilgrimage to DC for the Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear and have been watching the shows since they both came out. I actually have been wanting to see them both run for some time because they seem to get what politics look like behind the curtain.

On the other hand, I support Ron Paul and am concerned at what Colbert's meddling could do to the vote. I think a LOT of people who would otherwise support Paul would vote for Colbert (Cain) which would make Paul's numbers look a lot lower than they actually are. I think that American's are sick of the same old politics which is what we will see from either Obama or any other GOP candidate. Paul is clearly the vote against the business as usual DC and I feel that Colbert is also a vote against the status quo which could split the RP vote.

I guess we'll see how the whole thing plays out but one thing I'm NOT split on is how they are bringing light to how ridiculous this whole thing is. The PAC & Super PAC segments are hysterical but I wonder how many people actually know how realistic it is and how big of a threat these decisions regarding corporations & super PACs actually are towards freedom and personal rights. Pretty scary stuff.

The only two who can win is Ron Paul or Mitt Romney, since no one else got enough signatures for VA it is mathematically impossible for anyone else. The rest should get out of the way.

My biggest fear is a third candidate, that would ensure the vote is split enough for Obama to win again!

If that 3rd candidate is RP then it wold also split the Obama vote. Let's not forget that a LOT of those who voted (D) in 2008 are also upset with the results.. or lack thereof. I don't think a lot of them could bring themselves to vote (R) in protest but a 3rd party vote is a nice middle ground for them. I think if the Republican party were smart they would give RP the nod because either way, him running as an independent is the worst thing that could happen to the Republican party. He has said he won't but if he did....

Oh God...could you imagine the State of the Union presented like "The Word". And how he would address letters to "Gov. Parry, with an A"

Looks like he (or should I say Cain) did horribly. Ah well. It was great watching the video from last nights' Report of his rally in SC. Like Ostrich said, my wife and I were able to get to the rally in DC. It was a ton of fun but a LOT of people and we got there too late to see much. Public transit was pretty much nonexistent that day and we had to walk from our apartment uptown. I really love how Colbert is progressing in "politics" or more just saying what a joke the election/donation/superpac process really is.

I really hope that either Colbert or Paul win... but I don't know if that'll happen.

Also, I didn't catch anything re: the results, anyone care to share?

I love Colbert AND Stewart. Don't know how this is going to play out tho....I just love watching them talk about it. Especially when Colbert gave Stewart his SuperPac. :p
