I use the 'best by' date to decide if i need to check the product before eating it. If it's 'expired' i use common sense (smell/look & conditions in which it was stored)

I wouldn't mind just test-licking them =D. Would make a wonderful experience for my tongue.

On a side-note, I usually don't really bother about "best before" dates, my wife, on the other hand however, takes them very seriously. haha
