My GS4 is less than a month old and doing weird things like one way speaker phone (I can only hear myself talk, I can't hear person on other line). BestBuy geek told me to do factory reset. My question is, if I backup using Kies, do I still have to "backup data and wi-fi passwords and other settings to Google server" before I do factory data reset or is Kies adequate? I kind of don't like my passwords on a cloud somewhere.
Thanks!

Welcome. I'm sorry nobody has posted a response yet.

According to What can I backup and recover from my device using Kies? : Cell Phones | Samsung :
Kies backup description said:
You can back up the following content from your device: contacts, S Memo, S Planner (calendar events), call logs, S Health, Message, videos, music, photos, miscellaneous content files, Story Album, Ringtones, Application, Alarm, Email account information, and Preferences.
Preferences probably includes wifi passwords. That may suffice if that list includes everything you care about.

However, since you're planning on a factory reset to fix something I don't recommend restoring your settings (including wifi passwords); the most important thing a factory reset does is discard all of your settings.
