The setting is persistent, but only stays applied until the next time you reboot. The only way I've found to get around this is to make about:debug the homepage, and then get in the habit of tapping the address bar and Enter once upon first use after booting. Not a great solution I know, but it works.To consistently get the full, non-mobile versions of web pages, do this:
1. Type about:debug into the URL bar and press enter.
2. Go to Menu > Settings > Debug
3. Change UAString to "desktop"

A simple solution would be to install Dolphin, tap settings, and set the user agent to Desktop. Works great.
