Stock email app: How to batch delete deleted emails still residing in the app's trash?

How do i delete emails (960 of them) that are residing in my stock email app's trash WITHOUT doing so one by one?

I have twice deleted ALL emails that were residing on my Verizon online acct (did this on my home computer), and now have only 3 'active' emails in my Inbox, yet my phone's email app that i use for Verizon shows i have 960 in its trash can.

How to batch delete the email app trashcan?

THANKS.

do it from a computer

yes, as i mentioned, i HAVE deleted all messages (using my home computer) that reside on the verizon server.

but that has had zero effect on my cellphone...in terms of deleting emails that had previously come to my phone and are now residing it ITS trash can.

In gmail when you go to the trash there is an "empty trash" option in the "..." Menu -- but only after you go into the listview of trash emails.

Is this not there in the stock mail app? I dont have a phone with a recent version of the stock mail app on it.

yes, my GMail app does have a cache clearing/trash dumping option, but the stock email app doesn't (at least not that i can find).

i'm surprised that no one else here uses the stock email, or has this issue?

anyhow, still trying trying to solve...

thanks.

That depends on the manufacturer of the phone and what modifications, if any, they integrated into the ROM. HTC for example has an empty trash option in it's menu via sense, but the moto x doesn't (afaict).

I never use the stock mail client, because it's really crappy (and has been since Android has been around.) I forward all of my mail to my Gmail account and have Gmail set up to reply from the account that a message was sent to, plus filters to put messages from other accounts in their own label.

Ok, all of that said - is this account POP, IMAP or Exchange activesync? If it's POP, is there any way to redo the account to use IMAP instead?

And, after setting up an account in the email client, I went into the Trash folder on my account. Tapping the menu control bottom right, there was a "select all" menu. After selecting all, I could then just delete them.

My IMAP account also has a "Deleted messages" IMAP folder, which I think the mail client my wife uses (Apple Mail) puts deleted messages. But that one I could also select all and then delete.

well, good question. how do i tell what kind of account it is? on the 'inbound' settings it doesn't say (only asks for sever name and port number), and the 'outbound' settings says "SMTP server" (and the port number)...so does that tell us what type of account it is?

and yeah, my gmail, and yahoo mail, AquaMail, and others i have all have options for deleting/emptying the trash can therein...but the stock email app doesn't seem to.

btw...i do plan to stop using the stock email app, then solely use the AquaMail app for my verizon emails...but i do wanna dump trash, and the stock app also. i can't find it in the 'App' drawer, thus can't clear its cache, or uninstall, etc. (if anyone knows how to do that, i'm all ears!)

thanks much.

Oh, you're getting rid of the account anyway? Just delete the account - that will delete all of the messages that are stored, including the trash. Settings, under accounts tap email, tap "account settings" under the account, then the account you want to delete. At the very bottom of the list is "remove account". Once it is removed, all of the messages stored are removed from the phone, and then you can start using another mail client.

While you are in settings, before you remove it, there is an option just above remove account that says "incoming settings". That will tell you if it's IMAP or pop.

well there ya go; i deleted the account via the stock app (as you've detailed) and voila...everything gone, inc trash!

thank you!!

now using AquaMail, and liking it a lot.

thanks again!
