Stock email app: signature line spacing

How do I change the line spacing in the signature? Mine is double-spaced and I want it to be single. The source I copied it from was single-spaced but it double-spaces as soon as I paste it into the signature editing screen. I have also tried deleting everything and typing it in manually but that doesn't work either.

I found the formatting menu in the signature editor but can't find anything for line spacing or for clearing all formatting.

Is there a way to access the file for the signature through a USB connection to my PC for better editing tools? Is there a way to generate a soft line return character using either the Samsung keyboard or Swype?

This phone is Samsung Galaxy S5 on Verizon, Android version 6.0.1.

copy the signature that you want, paste it into a NOTEPAD text type editor,

that will strip out the HTML formatting that is giving you fits.

copy the new format from the Text Editor, or just create the signature in the Text editor first.
that is how I do it.... HTML is not useful in a lot of places.
