Stock Gallery App - tags deleted error

methfan

Lurker
i really like the "tag" feature in the stock Gallery app on my droid pro.

but there seems to be a bug with it. TWICE, my tags have been deleted. the first time it happened, wasn't such a big deal, i didn't have a lot of pictures so re-tagging them was easy.

but it just happened again, and i have a lot of pictures now, so i don't want to spend the time to tag them if someday in the future they are going get deleted again.

anyone experience this error? ideas on how to fix it?

anyone know of a alternate photo/video viewer app that supports tagging?

thanks

methfan,

I just noticed that the tags from all the photos I took over the weekend had been deleted too. So I did a bit of testing by adding a tag back on to a photo and seeing what actions may have triggered the tag delete. Finally I worked out that an unmount and (re)mount of the external SD card where I store my camera images caused this problem. Presumably a power-down would produce the same results as the SD cards are un-mounted at power down and mounted at boot-up.

Something is stripping out the tags either at unmount time or more likely at mount time when the OS does a rescan of all media. This means the culprit may not necessarily be the stock Gallery app.

It may be the OS doing the mount scan or possibly some other app that is "interested in" the media area.

What phone do you have and do you have any other photo editing or viewing apps installed? I'm using a rooted Motorola Atrix. Also I have just installed Adobe Photoshop Express - I'm don't know exactly when the tags were deleted but they were there at some point before I installed this app.

I have a Motorola Droid Pro.

I don't do any photo editing, but I do have another photo viewer installed: QuickPic

I think your on to something with the unmount / remount theory.

Thanks for your reply. At least I know I'm not the only one experiencing this.
