Stop collecting unwanted old e-mails?

I cannot use my smartphone's (ZTE BLADE) standard e-mail if it insists on collecting every e-mail from the server that I have ever read. There are thousands and it would take too much space
and I cannot find a way to mark them all read anyway. Is there a way to overcome this - to just say to the app to not notify and bring any more old messages?

Not sure what kind of email account you are using. But you can always archive your old emails into folders, so that way your inbox only has new emails.
