stop Featured Content

I have a Homtom HT17 with Android 6. It has "Featured Content" which would better be called "Featured Spam". I have tried my best to get rid of it and failed. Its "turn off" feature is totally ignored.
Someone suggested the problem may come from Go Keyboard Lite which I would happily dump. In Notifications I blocked it, but to no avail. I can't get rid of it because it is part of the system.
Yesterday I got Root App Delete in the hopes that I could dump Go Keyboard Lite with it (to hopefully solve the featured spam problem). I found it in the list of applications, but the most that it would allow me was to remove some patch to it and return to the factory original. What good is the factory original going to do?

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to eliminate the featured spam?

If possible root your device and use titanium backup to uninstall or freeze the app, provided you installed a new keyboard first or you wont be able to type.

Both my wife and I have HT17's, Mine has the featured spam and my wife's doesn't. Only difference is that they came from different (UK based) suppliers. they're Mediatek based phones, so have a look on XDA for rooting Mediatek phones, This phone uses MTH6737 quad core SOC.
