Stop the "New Tag Detected" prompt

Bhough01

Lurker
Since the last update am now getting a 'new tag detected' prompt when the NFC service detects an unknown tag nearby.

I suspect it's detecting something in my wallet i am using.

I do not want to turn off the nfc feature as I use it for pay and adding new devices ect.

I am only looking for useful advice on how to turn this specific part of the NFC feature off, please only reply with actual fixes, I am not looking for things to try if they haven't been proven to work.

I am using Samesung Galexy S8, Running latest supported firmware.

Thank you.

Sorry it's not what you wanted as I can't guarantee it will work but nothing's an actual fix until it's been tired and worked. Who knows about this one. Try long pressing nfc in the quick tabs (if it's not there scroll to the right), three tabs top right, default NFC method and choose Android operating system. Might work might not. There's also the chance that your phone's bugged out after the update and needs a reset but also not proven.

Thanks for helping, just a question though. Are you seeing this issue of 'new tag detected' when your phone detects a card with a chip in it?

That is exactly what happened with me. But it was my CAC identification card setting it off. I removed all of my cards out of my wallet cover for my note 8, and it stopped. I put my chipped bank card behind it... nothing. Then I put my ID card behind my phone, and that stupid notification popped up... guess I needto invest in a better cover or wallet. Hope this helps.

You can also buy individual RFID card sleeves. If the card plus one of those will still fit in the slot it might save you having to find a different wallet case.

I just turned off my NFC for now. It keeps those messages from popping up, and I can still use my Samsung pay. I will be getting on Amazon to find a new card sleeve though. Thanks!

Yea I will have to get one of those RFID blockers! It's a real shame that Samsung have introduced this issue in the latest update 'as a feature' with no way to catalogue the tag and then prevent it from popping up again

My guess that there may not be enough people with this issue for Samsung to fix, although this seems to be a feature they are trying to add into firmware updates. . . It may just be a waiting game to see what they do to fix this in the next update :/

I'm sure someone else was howling about this "new tag detected" thing with a Samsung phone on AF a few weeks ago.

AFAIK there's absolutely no reason for a phone to go notifying you about whatever arbitrary NFC things that it happens to pickup. Because usually you scan an NFC for a specific reason, like mobile payment, or checking balance on a subway or bus card, or pairing a Bluetooth device.
