Stoping Windshield Cracks From Spreading?

Over the cold weekend, a small crack has formed on my windshield from the edge moving it's way towards the center. It's a couple inches long, so not very big at all and completely smooth to the touch. So I'm guessing it's weather related since there's no chips or anything you can feel.

Anyhoo, I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions on stopping it from spreading? I don't mind going to a professional shop to get it "stopped" but I don't want to pay them and have it still spreading anyways, so if anyone had experience with this method then that would be reassuring before I did it.

If the crack is a single line, going from one place to another, there's nothing that you can do to stop it. There are plastic fillers intended to repair chips before any long cracks occur. These can't help after long cracks of any kind have developed. A replacement windshield is the only solution.

on golf carts at work we drill a teeny tiny hole at the end of the crack, not sure how it works on glass though

It really doesn't matter if it works or not. Long cracks are safety violations in most states.

You can get a brand new windshield delivered to you and installed on the spot for ~$200. A very small price for your safety.
