Stopping Auto Updates

terry42

Newbie
yes I know this questions has been asked a million times, I do not exaggerate. And yes I have gone into Play Store/Settings and set the option for Auto Update to "do not auto-update apps".

Yet sometimes I still get apps auto-updating. I have previously disabled most I don't want or need cause Samsung won't let me uninstall bloatware. I have now hidden the offending apps that just tried to auto-update.

IS there anything else I need do to stop these damn apps that I don't want, don't need from Auto-updating.
Cause I'm almost at the point of billing Samsung for the my data allocation they are stealing doing these updates I've told them not to do via Play Store.

Thanks and yes I'm bloody frustrated and annoyed that this sh*& keeps happening.

almost forgot, I have a Galaxy S5

Thank you for your post.

There are currently 34 different models of the Samsung Galaxy S5 and over 3,000 different stock Samsung firmware versions, worldwide, covering 3 different Android platforms, Android 4.4.2, Android 4.4.4 and Android 5.0.0. Not all issues will affect all models or firmware releases and your answers to the following questions will help in the forum's answers to your specific query.

#1 Could you post your Model number and Android version...

To locate these, go to...

Settings > More > About device > Model number and Android version

This will give you the model of Samsung Galaxy S5 that you have and which Android version you are on.

#2. Your current Firmware, (not just Baseband), version .

To locate your current firmware version, go to the stock, Samsung, dial pad and type in...

*#1234#

This will give you your, "Version", details in full, usually 3 lines of information, AP: CP: CSC:, which may all be relevant.

*** If code *#1234# has been disabled on your firmware, you can download and install, free from the Play Store, Phone Info and it will give you, under Firmware Info... PDA, Baseband, CSC, versions.

#3. Also helpful would be your carrier, (service provider), location, (UK, India, Russia, USA, etc: ), and if your phone is rooted or not and running a custom ROM, (give details).

Thanks. The above helps us to help you and hopefully someone will be able to reply to you shortly. :)

For more information, see, 34 Galaxy S5 models - know yours?

(TIP If you are a poster it is a good idea to mention your model number and firmware version in case this has a bearing on your problem.

Better still, you can go to the black bar at the top of this forum and click on your
Username, which will show a drop down menu. Just select, "Signature", and you can enter in the signature box the details of your phone, i.e. - "Galaxy S5 G900F".This ensures that your device details are shown in every post you make. You can update this as often as you like and will help other users immediately identify your phone and firmware.)

Your first mistake was to NOT put a check mark in the box for Updates to ONLY work on WiFi..... forget about billing Samsung, the clerk will read it, laugh and trash it.

2nd mistake is to NOT do what "ironass" posted.....
you must always, not sometimes, ALWAYS post your phone's
Carrier
Model
hardware version #
software version
and the rest of the stuff he asked for.

Once you have all of that done, then the readers (that's us by the way) can try to analyze what is going on for your particular model.

If you will note, my signature line just about has all of that covered.

Thanks for that terry42. You should be on roughly the same Google Play Store version as I am, 5.1.11. You can check this in...

Play Store > Settings > Build version. (TOP TIP: If you tap the Build version it will tell you if you are up-to-date or not and update you ;))

Still in, Play Store > Settings > Auto-update apps you are offered 3 choices, see screenshot below, and you have selected, "Do not auto-update apps", I take it?

How odd!

This is what I get...

Perhaps one of the Mods or Guides can explain why you are not getting the Signature option in this new, updated, Android Forum.

If you're using the phone stock, unrooted, you've got Samsung Galaxy apps, too. My guess is these are the auto-updates you're seeing. In your app drawer you should see galaxy apps or a Samsung folder with Samsung apps in it. As ironass pointed out every variant of every Samsung device is a little different so you're going to have to locate it yourself. If you get apps from Samsung, you can go into the Galaxy app app and turn off updates, or if you don't ever use the Samsung apps, then you can go into app manager and disable (turn off) the app.

My signature is the same one I used to have here, back when it would support a fully HTML encoded with colors and fonts and emoticons.....

I got ticked off by the lack of, a decent signature... 45 characters tucked into dimlight font on the right side of the screen is indecent exposure and I mean that literally.... so, I create my own "signature" and make it a part of my posts...... that way, since I post a lot, I don't have to repeat myself with "what does your S5 have?" questions.

thanks for the replies and the note on the signatures not available till after 25 posts. I guess i could post each word here in a separate post that should do it

I had already set Play Store to not update apps automatically but not Galaxy Apps, which I have now done. Thanks for that lunatic59

and as I have just bought a Galaxy Tab S tablet I guess I should do the same for Play Store and Galaxy Apps on that too to stop it's auto updates, thanks

BTW, the SideSync 3.0 between S5 and Tab S works a treat.:D

Nice try @terry42.:p I merged your posts. We don't want to give spammers and the like ideas.;) The 25 post rule is there for a reason. You are doing fine, and you will be able to have a signature soon enough.

I have the galaxy apps disabled in the application manager as I don't use any of the Samsung apps. I'd recommend doing that too, if you don't use them. BTW, it only disables the Samsung app store, not any Samsung apps already installed.

sorry, wasn't trying to spam. Have updated both and it seems to working as it should now, no auto updates.
thanks again for the tips.
