Help Storage Space

Newbie
I do not have a lot of apps installed on my LG Optimus F3. I have yried several apps which i uninstalled. I only update my browser and if an app misbehaves i will update it which i havent had to yet. On this latest Chrome update I tried updating and got an insufficient space message. I should jave had plenty of space available but had to go thru each app and clear the cache so i could update Chrome. My photos and music are stored on my external sd card which isnt much there either. Could this lack of space be due to trash left behind from uninstalled apps? I did notice in Android System files what seemed to be trash from like a cache from uninstalled apps. Im not sure what to do because those files cannot be opened and viewed. Says no support to open file and i dont want to delete something i need. Is there a fix to this? Like maybe an app to find and clean such trash from my phone? If so what is the app? Any help is highly appreciated.
Thank You
Marvin

Hi

There is an app called SD Maid which may help - at your risk of course!

I suspect that your phone may be full of thumbnail files - usually stored in /sdcard/DCIM/.thumbnails (a hidden folder) There may be a big file called .thumbdata3--lotsofdigits which is an index of all the thumbnails on your device since forever. You can delete it - it will rebuild itself but smaller than before. I have had some success by creating an empty FOLDER with exactly the same name as the big FILE after deleting the file. This seems to prevent the large index file from building again, but not permanently. Have a look at this post http://androidforums.com/threads/dcim-thumbdata3-1967290299.801052/

Thanks... How do I view hidden folders In file manager? Once upon a time I could do this but been so long I have forgotten. Funny thing under storage in settings, I am suppose to have over 400 megs of free internal storage. Thanks for your help. I tried to google directions but couldnt find them.

You can try clearing cache, which can get pretty big over time especially on a phone with limited storage like the F3 which only has 1.2G user memory available. If you don't do this with an app you can go through the app manager and manually delete the cache (not data) for each individual app.
Without rooting and using Link2SD to move apps to the external SD (what I did when I was using my F3) there isn't that much you can do with that amount of internal storage.

Hi

I dont have an LG but most file managers have a setting:

menu button
settings
tick "show hidden files" (or similar)

Yes to clearing app caches^^ I use a small app called History Eraser by Infolife (Playstore) to do this. Check the settings in the app before you use it as it can optionally delete phone logs, sms etc.

No option to show hidden files in file manager settings. I did however notice a bunch of img.cache files in some of the android system files.
