strategy for getting my phone replaced

crumpet

Lurker
I got a Droid x about a week ago and really like it. As the sales dude at vzw pulled it out of the box he kinda dropped it. I should have something right then, I know (stupid).

Now i notice a couple scratches on both the screen and the chassis. I don't have insurance but can still add it. What's the best way to get this phone replaced? Add insurance, and then take it in for the physical damage? Will insurance replace the phone for something so minute?

I believe insurance only covers loss or destruction, cosmetic issues would not be covered by either insurance or the mfg warranty. I suspect your best bet is to go back to the store and see if you can get help from that particular sales person. Though unless SOMETHING was said about it being dropped at the time it happened I wouldn't expect him to remember having dropped it.

I could be wrong but Im pretty sure that insurance doesnt cover cosmetic damage..

Don't even mention the scratches. Just make up an excuse (like its dropping call like crazy). But next time, inspect the phone before he activates it. If i was buying it, and the dude dropped it, I would have had him go get another one!

I am sorry, I made a promise I would be a nicer person this year, but...

IT IS JUST A PHONE. PHONE IS JUST A TOOL. IF YOU DON'T WANT TO SCRATCH THE PHONE, SEAL IN A TIME CAPSULE WITH A SEE THROUGH WINDOW. Ok, done yelling.

You are probably going to toss the phone to the recyclers in a year anyway. It has a few scratches move on with life, it is too short as it is to worry over something like scratches on a phone. They are not going to trade in a phone because of a few scratches. If you get insurance and break it or lose it intentionally you are breaking the law, unless you live in a state like oregon that allows that. If you return the phone and cancel the contract you will have to wait for 90 days before getting a new one. If it is the end of the world, either ebay the phone, take the lost, buy a new one, or just live with it by getting an invisible shield. Doing anything else is really dishonest and boarder line illegal.

Bodyguardz by NLU works well for full phone protection too. They have both wet and dry installation shields. Clearer and as protective as Invisible Shield from my perspective and having owned and used both.
