Stream Amazon Music Unlimited stops after 3 sec

I was streaming Amazon music to my car via bluetooth with my Pixel with no problems. I've upgraded to the Pixel 2. Now the stream pauses after 3 seconds. Streaming Google Play Music still works fine. Anyone have similar problems?

Have you tried clearing the cache/data for the Amazon Music app? Does it play okay if not connected via Bluetooth?

Yes, I cleared the cache. I did some experimenting. I can stream Amazon music in all other ways including to my BT headphones. The problem is limited to Bluetooth in my car and Amazon music. I can stream Audible and google music no problem.
I have also noticed the connection between the car and the Pixel 2 is not as seamless. BT used to automatically connect once I set it up between the phone and car but now I must select reconnect each time I get in the car.
