Streaming From Networked Hard Drive

So, I came across this app today, which really looks cool, but doesn't really do what I want, either:
Audiogalaxy - Android app on AppBrain

To use this app you have to install the software on your computer and leave it running at all times. I only have a laptop, and this would harsh my battery.

What I'd really like is to have my music on a hard drive that I could plug into my wireless router's usb port (airport extreme), and then be able to stream my music on my phone from anywhere.
Anyone know if that's possible, or (I'm violating Apple's trademark here) is there an app for that?
Thanks!

I am not aware of anyway to do that unless you can forward a port to the drive from the router. Not that this is any help but just my two cents worth.
