Streaming MP3s

Using a Moto Droid.

I subscribe to a website where programming is available for download via MP3. When I tap a link to stream/download an MP3, I get this message: "Failed to play the requested stream".

I can tap and hold, bringing up the menu where I select "Save link" and about once every 10 tries it will actually succeed at downloading the file. Needless to say with this success rate, this phone is close to becoming an unidentified flying object.

Ummm, my Storm 2 streams the file without fail. How hard could it be if THAT browser will stream?

i am new to android, but it seems at least android 1.5 (i have a g1) can only stream via RTSP , not http.

so you need to have a rtsp server running for that (e.g. the darwin streaming server)

if im completely mistaken here please someone correct me (im happy to learn that there _is_ a way to stream via http)

Must be.

I wouldn't mind the inability to stream mp3's if I could download the file more reliably. It's an exercise in frustration to choose "Save link" and repeatedly get "download unsuccessful". Who knows, the problem could lie with the server.

At this point I will have to download via PC and copy to SD vs. the much more convenient 3G option. Media is not Androids strong suit. I can make do.

i have to say that the way the browser downloads/streams files is not very intuitive. when you try to open a http stream the video player reports "video is not valid for streaming" or similar. in fact it should say something like "player is not valid for http streaming "

also i would prefer if you click on a media link the context menu would pop up directly and give the options "download"/"open in player".
