Help Stuck in reboot loop

Hi guys, really hoping someone can help me out on this one. For approx 2 days now my Nexus 7 has been stuck in a reboot loop - within about 10 seconds of switching on, my device reboots, and once rebooted the same thing happens again, and again, and so on.

I have tried letting the battery drain and then charging, which didn't help. I've tried doing a factory reset - it says the reset is complete and all data wiped, however when I switch back on all my apps are still there so it's clearly not working.

Anyone got any ideas?!
 
Thanks for the link - however I can't even make it past step 2 of the pre-requisites, because my device won't stay switched on long enough to enable debugging mode...

You didn't read the whole thing I see. Reading will show you a different way

I read it all - the top section is called 'pre-requisites' so I assumed you couldn't carry out the process before having done those things.

I have now attempted to carry out the steps lower down the screen but it fails when I attempt to double click the bat file (step 6). I get the following error message:

'fastboot' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file

Try Wugs toolkit, it will download and install everything you need to unlock the bootloader and reflash the system images. It should even work if your tablet is stuck in a reboot loop.

Does it reboot when in the bootloader or just when it reaches the OS?

Thanks for the link - I've downloaded the tool and tried various things but don't seem to be getting anywhere. I tried the flash stock & unroot option, but this failed because the bootloader was locked. So I ran the unlock option - this initially seems to work in that the n7 asks whether I want to unlock and I select yes; the toolkit then displays a message saying it's been unlocked and the system will reboot. However when my device reboots nothing has changed (I thought unlocking was meant to wipe the device) and when I go back into bootloader it still says it's locked. I'm getting very confused and lost with all this.

The constant reboots only happen when it reaches the OS, in bootloader it seems to be ok.
 
Try booting in safe mode to see if that stops the reboots.

If you can, when it's finished loading, hold the power button for a few seconds and one of the reboot options should be safe mode. The core OS will load, but none of your apps will. If it works fine then, it will probably point to an issue with an app as opposed to an issue with the device/OS itself.

As I say you might not be able to if it's rebooting as soon as it gets to the OS.
 
I've created a hardware reset tutorial video on my fixed1t youtube, its in my Nexus 7 playlists.


Its important to delete the caches then do the full reset or the cache data gets kept.

I also have a video showing how I safely open the Nexus 7 and disconnect the batteries.

I've given this a go, but even when I tell it to boot in safe mode it just boots up normally :confused:

Thanks for the link. I've gone through the steps in your video, I get confirmation that cache wipe is complete, I get confirmation that data wipe is complete, and yet when I reboot, everything is still there (including the problem!)

I find it hard to believe NRT couldnt fix it with the flash stock + unroot option set to soft brick/bootloop.

You should try that option again BUT make sure you are using a different cable AND make sure the device is plugged into a USB port attached to the computer motherboard, not a hub or add-on card.

The N7 can be very fickle at times about what kind of cable you can use to do flashing operations.

EDIT - Make sure you follow NRT's driver installation guide first!

You forgot to add 65% plus charged battery

I've tried NRT again. When I try flash stock + unroot every step fails with the message 'bootloader is locked'. Any ideas?

If you used another cable and port, I dont know.

My last guess would be a security suit, Avast mobile can lock out debugging and even restore it's self after a hard reset.
