Help Stuck on Google logo

Awp69

Lurker
I've read other threads but my case seems a bit different so...

My Nexus 7 gets stuck on the Google screen no matter how I turn it on (power button, holding power and volume up, holding power and volume down, holding power and both volume buttons).

I can't get it to go into recovery mode. It doesn't seem to get recognized by my laptop (and yes, I've tried multiple cables). I also tried popping the back off and disconnecting the battery.

And, finally, I let the battery drain and then recharged it. Same result.

Is there anything else I can do? I'd like to keep my data but at this point I was willing to do a full reset to factory settings via the recovery mode but can't even get to it. Only the Google splash screen.

Am I pretty much screwed at this point? Or is there anything else I can try?

Have you tried different PC ports / cords?

Volume up/down and the power button should get you into the bootloader

Yes, I've tried several cords and USB ports on my PC as well as my wife's laptop. No luck.

And you're right, the volume up/down and power buttons should get me to the bootloader. In fact, I got into it once a month or two ago to look at the options (didn't do anything) because my tablet was being kind of slow. In that case, I just uninstalled some large apps and used a cleaning app that I've always used and it worked fine until now.

And now, as I mentioned in the OP, I cannot get it to go to the bootloader using the volume and power buttons. I've even tried all kinds of button combinations. All result in just the Google logo screen.

Well there is no way you can't get into it. Just leave the device off for 10minutes, unplugged.

Then try to hold the volume buttons for 10 seconds, then hold the power with it.

Is there an obstruction potentially preventing one of the buttons from being read? Even after you get the Google logo, try holding the volume buttons and power button since that will sometimes still get you into the bootloader.

Tried both of the suggestions above and still nothing. Even tried removing the cover and touching the buttons directly to ensure contact was being made. Same result.

I think maybe something corrupted the bootloader. I have no idea.

If the bootloader is corrupt, then the device wouldn't even turn on at all. I know a recent change to many devices have made it so that only vol down+power is required to get into the bootloader, have you tried only those two? I think vol up + power takes you to nvflash mode.

Yes, I have tried just those two as well. Just frustrating also knowing I could get into the bootloader about a month ago.

Took it to a local store that works on cellphones and tablets. They were quite familiar with the Nexus 7 and also were stumped at why it wouldn't go into the bootloader or recovery mode.

Think it's toast.

Yeah this is very strange. Have you tried running Wuggs root tool and run the back to stock script, and click on the soft brick option?

Try this and see if it works.

Try this, plug it in to your laptop then check in device manager to see how the laptop is reading it. If says anything like apx, then your bootloader has been erased. The only thing that will fix it is an nv flash. Unfortunately, if you haven't already backed up your nv flash blobs, you're hosed. These blobs are device specific, and must be pulled from your device while it is still booted and functioning.
