Stuck on white screen htc desire 310

hiya the htc desire 310 won’t get past the start up htc white screen, doesn’t even say “quietly brilliant” prior to this it was alternating between that and an optimising app loop that never ended either so did a hard reset/factory wipe deleted all user data cleared cache files too, took battery out and sim, now it’s decided to stay on the white screen. Getting fustrated as need it sorted for my daughter. If anybody has any advice it’d be much appreciated, thank you

There's not much more you can do. You've done a factory reset. You could try that again. Otherwise you could try to find a compatible ROM Upgrade Utility (RUU) and reflash the phone's software completely - for that you'll need to know the phone's software version (you can't install an older version this way) and the country/carrier it was originally sold through (just country if it's not a carrier-locked phone), since the RUUs are specific to different "customer ids" (where the customer is the region or carrier, not the end user). Though these things are hard to find for budget devices like this (people put more effort into leaking them for flagships, though there's less support there than there used to be).

Of course it's possible that the cause of all of this is a fault in the storage device or something like that, in which case there is no fix. You can't know until you try. But it's a bit worrying that a factory reset should make something like this worse, since that shouldn't affect the system software at all (and unless you are rooted/using a custom recovery you should not be able to damage the system software from recovery mode).

Hi and thanks for the quick response. How do i do your first suggestion? No idea of the software version though and it was locked I’m in the uk and haven’t ever rooted the phone, i think my daughter downloaded something with a bug but looked online to see how to put the phone into safe mode so i could delete all apps but it won’t work.

A standard app with a bug cannot damage the OS, though the 310 might be old enough that it's vulnerable to malware that can.

OK, UK is a start. Was it bought from one of the networks, or bought offline (or through CarphoneWarehouse, who only sell unbranded phones)? I suspect we won't be able to find many RUUs (if it's Orange or EE it's very hard to find RUUs at all), so perhaps software version doesn't matter much (i.e. just take what can be found, if anything, and hope), though if you boot into the bootloader (reboot while holding the volume down key, if I remember correctly) there will be information on that screen that might give some clues.

Cool. Rebooted it like you said now it’s back to android is upgrading starting apps fingers crossed though it does get stuck there too when i can get on it, will let you know either way. It was brought from tesco, locked to vodaphone. Got on the bootloader which I think is different menu to the restore one, saw the menu, clicked on version yet it wouldn’t go further and froze, thank you for helping

Seems to now be stuck on the android is upgrading, well the swirl is turning but it’s been over an hour and it hasn’t showed any progress
