Stuttering video streaming over WIFI for MP4

I got a Android TV stick from Amazon couple of months ago, and I've used it to play videos files of all kinds on my windows computer through SMB and WIFI, without any problem.

All of a sudden, starting from yesterday morning I've been getting stuttering playback and non-stop buffering, and the weird thing is, it only does that for MP4 files. No issues at all playing AVI or MKV files. Haven't had a chance trying other formats yet.

The stuttering is also happening indiscriminately for videos of all bitrates, including those as low as 1mbits/s.

Any idea what could be so different with mp4 files that could explain this?

I have played numerous other mp4 files before yesterday without any issue. I haven't installed anything new on the TV stick for weeks and my router has been on the same settings for at least 6 months. So it's a real mystery why this is happening now.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can shed some light on this.

Cheers
Nick
